Rankings
We’ve made it half way through the regular season. Take a deep breath and get ready for the second half. That is when the contenders will separate themselves from the pretenders.
Since it is the half way point of the season I thought we should look at how players are doing in our league.
QB
- Tom Brady
- Kyler Murray
- Jalen Hurts
- Lamar Jackson
- Patrick Mahomes
At QB perhaps the biggest surprise is that Jalen Hurts is doing so well. He has been extremely consistent never scoring less than 20 points and is averaging 23.5 points per game, just half a point behind Kyler Murray each week. At number 5 Patrick Mahomes is underperforming his QB1 per-season ranking, but according the Fantasy Pros he is still expected to be the QB1 over the rest of the season. Hurts is currently ranked QB9 rest of season and Brady is QB5.
TE
- Travis Kelce
- Mark Andrews
- Mike Gesicki
- Dalton Schultz
- Dawson Knox
Travis Kelce is the current tight end number 1, was the preseason number 1, and is the rest of season number 1. What is going to happen to fantasy football when Kelce finally decides to retire? For the rest of the top 5, perhaps only Mark Andrews is not a surprise. Looking forward though the experts expect Kyle Pitts to do well rest of season. He is currently the TE6, but has scored 22 and 19 points in his last two games. If he keeps that up then Kelce’s reign as number 1 may end sooner rather than later.
WR
- Cooper Kupp
- Ja’Marr Chase
- Tyreek Hill
- Davante Adams
- Deebo Samuel
The preseason rankings had Adams number 1, Hill number 2, and Diggs number 3. Adams and Hill have manged to be in the top 5 through the first 7 weeks but Diggs is currently sitting at WR25! The biggest surprise is that rookie Ja’Marr Chase is so dominate. He is so big and fast that he turns nothing into a lot of points. But relying on his physical gifts so much mean that in 10-15 years he might have a drop off. Time to trade high… Looking forward Cooper Kupp is expected to be the WR2 and Diggs is expected to bounce back to be the WR4.
RB
- Derrick Henry
- Jonathan Taylor
- D’Andre Swift
- Austin Ekeler
- Alvin Kamara
Running Back has been a painful position this year. It’s unsurprising that the current top 5 looks different than the preseason rankings. Everyone was expecting huge things from Christian McCaffrey, but for the second year in a row injuries have held him back. Dalvin Cook has also missed weeks due to injuries but has been great when on the field. Now past his bye week big things are expected for Cook. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Swift is only ranked as as the RB13 going forward despite being so great in the early part of the season. Derrick Henry will just keep destroying would be tacklers and is always a smash play.
Blunder of the week
Despite winning both matches this week Wizard Of Oz made the biggest blunder by starting Sam Darnold over Joe Burrow at QB. Darnold scored measly 2 points coming in at QB29 on the week. In contrast Burrow was the QB1 with 26 points. And why does this 24 point swing make such a difference? Because at the end of the season the team with the most points scored wins $100 and the contest is always pretty close. Currently the Wizards sit in 5th place. With an extra 24 points they move up to 3rd. Let’s not get lazy folks!
