Week 9 Review

Blunder of the week

The wildcats get the honor this week. Instead of two losses, two victories were possible. Against GS the team only needed another 7 points, something Big Ben could have provided all my himself. Le’Veon Bell had a good week on the bench and Brandon Aiyuk scored 15 that just do not count. Starting the right players is very important in fantasy football.

Standings

GS

17-1, 1164.78 points scored

Despite only scoring 59 points by the end of Sunday, GS got another two wins this week thanks to great performances from Najee Harris and Darnell Mooney on Monday night. Their combined 34 points was just enough to get past the Westminster Wildcats.

Joe Dubya

13-5, 1096.6 points scored

A week after losing Derrick Henry Joe put up the high score on the week. However at 124 points it is the lowest high score seen so far this season. Joe relied on a hugh day from Nick Chubb, but may need to find a different running back for next week after Chubb tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. This will really test Joe’s depth at the position.

Wizard Of Oz

11-7, 1043.36 points scored

Wizard Of Oz split their games this week after Jonathan Taylor scored 33 points on Thursday night. Cole Kmet started at tight end for only the second time this season and managed to outscore highly touted teammate Kyle Pitts. Trey Sermon was a strange starter after failing to score more than one point in the last three attempts.

Jolly Roger

10-8, 1127.96 points scored

Jolly Roger got a boost from Christian McCaffrey returning for the first time since he was injured in week 3. The Panthers did not work CMC too much though as he only scored 12 fantasy points, well below his average. Still enough to make him the highest scoring running back on team Jolly Roger. Elsewhere the pirates got production from Cordarrelle Patterson and Travis Kelce while Patrick Mahomes continued to struggle. A total of 99 points on the week is Jolly Roger’s second lowest score of the season but good enough for one win.

Westminster Wildcats

10-8, 914.26 points scored

The Wildcats lost two close matches this week. Mac Jones did the team no favors only scoring 5 fantasy points despite leading the Patriots to a big win over the Panthers. Chase Edmonds’ injury also hurt the Wildcats. On the plus side TE Pat Freiermuth is proving to be a real weapon for the team.

No-Bell Prizes

10-8, 904.44 points scored

The week started out strong on Thursday night with 23 points from rookie wide receiver Elijah Moore.

Things went down hill from there. Tua was out on Sunday, so Tyrod Taylor started unexpectedly for the Prizes, throwing 3 interceptions and scoring just 5 fantasy points. The rest of the starting receivers (all four of them) caught a total of 9 passes (on 26 targets) for 84 yards. The Prizes want to put this week behind them and look forward to getting Russell Wilson back.

White Hart Bobby Layne

9-9, 1085.62 points scored

White Hart Bobby Layne stayed at .500 this week, winning one and losing one. The team is currently sitting in seventh place, one outside of the playoffs, so they will need to make a push in the next few weeks to get in. Quarterback could be a real weakness for the team this year unless Derek Carr or Trevor Lawrence become far more consistent.

Jason Edelman

9-9, 887.8 points scored

Jason also managed to stay at .500 after this slate of matches due to an uninspiring 72 points scored. The whole team struggled. Only three players scored in the double digits. The bench was not much better, though Matt Ryan easily outscored starter Ryan Tannehill.

Dan L

8-10, 933.94 points scored

Team Dan gets the double win this week, narrowly edging out White Hart Bobby Layne and thoroughly smashing the No-Bell Prizes. Dan’s young wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Michael Pittman both caught five passes and scored a touchdown, though Smith had almost twice as many yards as Pittman.

TC

7-11, 744.76 points scored

Despite having a few starters out this week, TC scored a season high 105 points. James Conner led the team with 37 points and Lamar Jackson tacked on another 30 making him the QB1 for the week. These two players made up over 2/3rds of the total points. Going forward FantasySharks will set a lineup for TC based on their projections if no other lineup is submitted by Thursday, 6am ET.

Adam

3-15, 881.18 points scored

Adam dropped both matches this weekend after Josh Allen had, by far, his worst game of the season. The team did get 25 points from Joe Mixon who scored both of the Bangles touchdowns. This helped make up for the lack of production from Robby Anderson who has not scored more than 7 points since week one. Adam is now turning his thoughts toward scouting rookies as the team should have a very early draft pick.

Sweet Lou

1-17, 613.86 points scored

Sweet Lou has been stuck on a single win since week 3 and that did not change this week. The betting markets are wondering if the team will get to 4 wins before the end of the regular season. If anyone is interested in making a water bet then reach out to me.

Power rankings

Despite sitting second to last in the table, Adam is ranked eighth in the unofficial power rankings. This can mean two things…

  1. Adam’s team is under performing.
  2. The power rankings are really bad and should be ignored.

Weekly high scores

  1. Wizard Of Oz (142.04)
  2. Jolly Roger (160.72)
  3. White Hart Bobby Layne (164.04)

James Conner

James Conner ran the ball 21 times for 96 yards and two TDs. He also caught all five targets for an additional 77 yards and another TD on his way to scoring a season high 37 fantasy points. This made him not only the RB1 for the week, but the weeks top scoring player at any position. Image curtesy of Daniel Gluskoter/Icon Sportswire
