As a Seahawks fan, this has been a very difficult season. The Seahawks just have not played well, so I am left to take joy wherever I can find it, and that has meant special teams. There was the double punt back in week 5. And last night there was a blocked extra point returned all the way for two points. My favorite moment is watching number 2, D.J. Reed, run with his arms stretched out blocking the way for his teammate. A score like this does not happen very often so it was fun to see. For me that was the highlight of a disappointing game.
Blunder of the week
For the second week in a row the blunder of the week goes to Jolly Roger. Had the team played Javonte Williams over Christian McCaffrey or even Mike Evans then they would have scored enough points to beat White Hart Bobby Layne. This would have kept them in third place.
Far more importantly defeating White Hart Bobby Layne would have helped the No-Bell Prizes to leap frog Euan and move into the final playoff spot. So come on, help out me out!
Standings
GS
21-3, 1460.28 points scored
For the first time since week 2 GS lost a game. And for the very first time all season they lost the double. They put up their lowest total points all season with just 74. Really, it was just ugly. Neither Najee Harris nor D’Andre Swift could get going. Chris Godwin had a bad game. Ja’Marr Chase was not much better. Even George Kittle only had one reception. The team will need to put this one behind them and just move on.Joe Dubya
17-7, 1408.42 points scored
Despite scoring a very respectable 103 points Joe’s team lost both of their matches this week. This puts them just barely ahead of Wizard Of Oz in the race for the number two seed. Not helping the cause is Nick Chubb going into a bye week, so Joe will have to look for points somewhere else. At least Kyler Murray should be back.Wizard Of Oz
16-8, 1374.64 points scored
Wizard Of Oz took advantage of good match ups to get a double win and to move ahead of Jolly Roger into third place despite only scoring 91 points. Winning ugly and taking advantage when you can is an important part of winning championships. Once again Deebo Samuel helped lead the team to victory, but he is going to be sidelined for one or two weeks with an injury so Wizard Of Oz will need to find a way to win without him. But Deebo should be back for the playoffs, and that is where he will really be needed.Jolly Roger
15-9, 1544.48 points scored
It is hard to say that football has been cruel to Jolly Roger when they have won the every single championship in this league, but it is equally hard to say it has been good to them when they lose Christian McCaffrey for the season after just getting him back. McCaffrey’s production in the last two seasons does not come close to what it was in just 2019.Year | Points | Rushes | Yards | TDs | Receptions | Yards | TDs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2021 | 109 | 99 | 442 | 1 | 37 | 343 | 1 |
2020 | 81.90 | 59 | 225 | 5 | 17 | 149 | 1 |
2019 | 411.20 | 287 | 1387 | 15 | 116 | 1005 | 4 |
Jolly Roger will now to have use on their other RBs for the rest of the season. Perhaps Javonte Williams or Alexander Mattison will be able to pick up the slack. Regardless who the team goes with they still managed to get one win this week keeping them toward the top of the standings.
Westminster Wildcats
13-11, 1206.88 points scored
The Wildcats did exactly what they needed to do this week - they kept on winning. Despite a poor showing from Tom Brady and Mark Ingram scoring zero points (he was a late inactive) Jaylen Waddle, Josh Jacobs, and Rob Gronkowski stepped up and scored 58 points between them. This was more than enough to lift the team above TC and Jason keeping them in fifth place and in line for the playoffs.White Hart Bobby Layne
12-12, 1404.42 points scored
Euan’s team got two incredibly important wins this week, keeping them in the final playoff spot with just two weeks to go. Dak Prescott performed under pressure scoring 23 points and Adam Thielen tacked on another 20 with two more touchdowns. However there is a rumor that the Cowboys might rest Ezekiel Elliott this week. Euan might view this as good thing, saving Zeke for a playoff run, but that only works if the team makes the playoffs and that is far from certain at this moment.No-Bell Prizes
12-12, 1171.42 points scored
The Prizes scored more than 100 points for the first time in four weeks and they also got their first win (double win actually) in four weeks. And it is all thanks to Leonard Fournette who picked up the team and put them on his back. Fournette’s 40 points led the league this week and keep the Prizes’ playoffs hopes alive, if just barely. The team is currently sitting in seventh place, just outside of the playoff spots, but is behind White Hart Bobby Layne only on points, so the slightest slip up could determine who makes the playoffs and who does not.
The No-Bell Prizes traded for Fournette before the start of the season and he has proven to be worth it. Fournette is currently the RB6 on the season. Photo by Jeffrey Brown/Icon Sportswire.
Dan L
10-14, 1226.54 points scored
Team Dan split their matches this week after scoring 107 points. Elijah Mitchell led the team with 25 points on 27 rush attempts and Dawson Knox announced his return to relevance with two TDs on just three receptions. Dan may be playing for next season but the team is showing they still have pride.Jason Edelman
10-14, 1161.34 points scored
Team Jason fell to both the No-Bell Prizes and the Westminster Wildcats this week. Davante Adams was great as always. If the team was competing for a playoff spot then Dalvin Cook’s injury would be a real concern, but they aren’t so Cook sitting for a few weeks is no big deal. Jason will hope to get back some star power next season including Deshaun Watson and Michael Thomas. They could propel the team back to the top of the standings.Adam
7-17, 1127.88 points scored
Adam got another two wins this week to move ahead of TC in the standings. The win over GS could really help shake up the standings in the final few weeks of the regular season. Adam relied on strong performances from Joe Mixon and Antonio Gibson and the week’s number one QB Josh Allen. The team looks like it is a good tight end away from competing every week.TC
7-17, 951.28 points scored
Lamar Jackson had a horrible week which means that TC’s week was not much better. The difference is that Jackson was able to pull out a win and TC couldn’t. Running back should be a position of real concern for the team. They only have four RBs on the roster and two of them, David Johnson and Royce Freeman, both play for Houston. Expect the team to attack the position this off season.Sweet Lou
4-20, 842.66 points scored
Some weeks are barely worth showing up for. For Sweet Lou only QB Taylor Heinicke and RB James Robinson managed to score double digit points, and they both only had 11. The high scorer on the team was DeSean Jackson on the bench who had three receptions for 102 yards and a TD, good for 17 points. The regular season is almost over, that is the good news.Power rankings
More fallout from injuries in the power rankings this week. Jason saw his team’s value plummet after Dalvin Cook was injured. Cook went from third overall to 129th wiping out nearly 10,000 points in one fell swoop. Also losing a ton of value was Jolly Roger as Christian McCaffrey suffered a season ending injury. However the 2,000 points that Jolly Roger lost was not the full 10,000 that CMC represented. This means that some of slack was picked up by a deep squad on the bench.
Increasing in value this week was Joe Dubya who gained nearly 5,000 points. Some of the increase came from several top players increasing their value a little. Austin Ekeler went from fourth to second and Kyler Murray went from 66th to 63rd. But the bulk of the change can be attributed to Hunter Renfrow increasing from 120th all the way to 66th.
